FAQs

What are the details around the certificate program?
The seminar is a 5-day intensive workshop in Framework Foresight, along with other related areas such as System Thinking, Alternative Perspectives (alternate techniques), and Visioning & Planning. The areas covered are an overview of what we teach in our first four classes for the Foresight Master’s degree. Participants receive the textbook, Thinking about the Future, accompanying worksheets, a Credly badge, and a Certificate in Strategic Foresight from the University of Houston for attending the seminar. Students can also obtain a separate Certificate of Achievement by completing a foresight project after the seminar, which counts as a qualifying credential for membership in the APF (Association of Professional Futurists).

What are the details around the immersion weekend?
The certificate program covers the basics of doing foresight work. The immersion weekend takes this work a step further by providing hands-on experience designed to accelerate participants’ ability to think, feel, and act with the future in mind. Moving beyond conventional strategic planning, the weekend module dives into how core principles of foresight and design can be brought together to prototype the future and create immersive encounters with possible worlds. It is highly interactive, blending short micro-lectures with real-world examples, and action learning. The final deliverable at the end of the bootcamp is the staging of encounters with the future. Open to current and past certificate participants, foresight graduate students, and alumni

How long has the program been in existence?
We have been running the certificate program since 2009 with more than 1,000 participants completing it.

What is the minimum number of participants required?
We need to have at least 10 participants per session.

When will you post new dates?
We usually post new dates as soon as we have confirmed the reservation of the location. If you would like to be notified please email foresight [at] uh.edu (foresight[at]uh[dot]edu).

Do you offer any kind of financial assistance?
Unfortunately, we do not offer any kind of special discounts or financial assistance at the moment.

What is the dress code for the seminar?
We’re a fairly informal bunch so the dress code is casual — a pair of jeans and a nice top are fine. We want you to be comfortable while you learn.

What is your cancellation, refund, and transfer policy?

  • Cancellations: We reserve the right, when necessary, to cancel classes due to insufficient enrollment or unforeseen circumstances. If we must cancel your class, you may request a full refund or transfer to a later session within that calendar year. We will notify you at least 48 hours in advance if we must cancel a class.
  • Refunds: If you want to cancel your registration for a class seven days or more prior to the start of class, you will receive a 100 percent refund. If you want to cancel your registration six days or less prior to the start of class, you will receive an 80 percent refund. Once a class begins, no refunds or transfers will be given.
  • Full refunds may be granted after start of class on a case by case basis due to special circumstances such as sudden illness, inability to travel due to weather or transportation shutdowns, or other factors. Each special cancellation or refund request will be reviewed by both the seminar coordinator & the head of the Foresight program to make a determination.
  • Transferring your seminar date: Transfers may be granted under special circumstances. If you want to transfer your registration to a different seminar date, the request must come no later than seven days prior to the start of class. Each transfer request will be reviewed by both the seminar coordinator & the head of the Foresight program to make a determination.
